Nevada passes bill to create a Cannabis Compliance Board

1 min read

Nevada legislators passed a bill to create a board that will oversee the state’s legal marijuana industry.

The Cannabis Compliance Board will be tasked with establishing requirements for marijuana delivery services and studying MJ consumption lounges.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The board would be barred from legalizing and licensing lounges.
  • The bill prohibits a local government from licensing a business that allows consumption of cannabis on its premises, which could preempt the Las Vegas City Council’s vote to create a new business license and land-use regulations for marijuana social use venues.
  • The bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to adopt regulations relating to industrial hemp.
  • Gov. Steve Sisolak is expected to sign the bill into law this week. He called for forming the board and modeling it after the way Nevada regulates gambling.
